Dear People of Tomorrow,
Good day, AMSA-UAJ!
The East Asian Medical Students’ Conference (EAMSC) 2026 was held in Nepal from January 15 – 19, 2026 carrying the theme “Mental Health: Addressing the Silent Crisis.” Hosted by Maharajgunj Medical Campus (Teaching Hospital) Institute Of Medicine, Tribhuvan University, AMSA-Indonesia successfully sent delegates who gained valuable insights, perspectives, and experiences regarding mental health issues on a global scale. Throughout this event, AMSA-UAJ was handed the honor to send 4 (four) delegates to participate as part of the delegations to the conference, consisting of Brenda Lies Fandrika (AMSEP 2023) as the current Executive Committee (Director of AMSEP) of AMSA International 2025/2026, Joyceline Chika Tanely (SD 2023) as the Chief of Delegates for AMSA-Indonesia and Academic Delegate for Scientific Paper Category, alongside Airen Wang (Member 2023) and Aurel Kimberly (CO 2023) as Academic Delegates for Scientific Paper Category.
Flying all the way from Jakarta to Nepal was not an easy and quick start to begin with, but our delegates managed to arrive in Nepal on time safely and with full spirit to experience the fullest of what EAMSC 2026: Nepal has to offer. We started the first day with enjoying the welcoming party from AMSA Nepal with their cultures and foods, alongside with networking and bonding with fellow AMSA-Indonesia delegates that came from AMSA-Universitas Syiah Kuala, AMSA-Universitas Jambi, AMSA-Universitas Indonesia, AMSA-Universitas Gadjah Mada, AMSA-Universitas Airlangga, AMSA-Universitas Mataram, AMSA-Universitas Hasanuddin, and AMSA-Universitas Sam Ratulangi, also with AMSA chapters who came by, AMSA Hong Kong, AMSA Taiwan, AMSA Singapore, AMSA South Korea, and so many more. We were also served with our very first exposure to the Nepali’s foods and culture on the first day.
The second day of the conference highlights as the academic day, where all of the selected abstract submissions all over AMSA chapters will be presenting for their works. AMSA-UAJ’s academic delegates presented their work called “DIGITAL INTERVENTIONS FOR DEPRESSION IN THE AI ERA: A NETWORK META-ANALYSIS TO COMPARE AND RANK THERAPEUTIC CHATBOTS AND AI-AUGMENTED THERAPY”, while also listening and absorbing tons of esteemed works all across categories, including Scientific Paper and Scientific Poster. We also were honored to learn more about mental health management in community based, such as art therapy, dance therapy, and communication aspects of handling mental health cases.
An international conference would not be enough without a social cultural day which happens on the third day of the conference. AMSA-UAJ delegates coordinated with fellow Indonesian delegates to offer an unique perspective and show about our cultural pieces, presented in Cultural Booth and Cultural Performance. One of AMSA-UAJ’s precious delegate, Airen, undergone the honor to be one of the coordinator/person in charge of AMSA-Indonesia’s cultural performance, where we presented Indonesia in two point of views, our traditional cultural dances and musics, alongside our current trend in TikTok platform at that time, introducing “hiphop dangdut” or “hipdut”, with “Bintang 5” by Tenxi through collaborative performance and teaching the international delegates on the TikTok trend.
Aligned with the core principal of AMSA, “Action”, our fourth day was filled with a community outreach to schools in Nepal, with teaching the students on how stigma is harmful, especially for the mental health of youngsters in productive age like us. We also presented how we deal with them as an individual. As the extension of our community outreach day, we also got to experience city tour curated by the Organizing Committees to Boudanath Stupa, one of the largest stupas in Asia (a Stupa is a place of worship for Buddhists) and Bhaktapur Durbar Square, museum of medieval art and architecture with many examples of sculpture, woodcarving and colossal pagoda temples consecrated to different gods and goddesses, situated 15 kilometers from Kathmandu.
On the last day, our itinerary is practically just an inauguration of awards of the best scientific works and abstract arts. Even though AMSA-UAJ’s delegates have not managed to place on the podium, we secured a Top 8 Finalists award to present in EAMSC 2026: Nepal. Lastly, a travel to a foreign city wouldn’t be enough by just the scheduled itinerary, so AMSA-Indonesia’s delegates decided to extend our mini trip to Thamel Shopping District, where most of us had the most fun shopping for souvenirs for our loved ones and haggling with the local kiosks before going back to Indonesia for good.
This experience in general was our once-in-a-lifetime experience, both in terms of presenting at a conference of EAMSC's magnitude, and travelling to a country so far from home. Looking back, the personal and professional growth we achieved is something I wish for everyone in our chapter. I hope our journey inspires more of our AMSA-UAJ peers to seize the chance to participate in AMSA International events, be it as an academic or general delegate, and discover the extraordinary global network waiting for you.
