Event of The Year 2025: Bridging Generations Through Heart Health

On April 12 and April 19, 2025, AMSA Atma Jaya Medical University held its Event of the Year with the theme “EARTH: Empowering Heart Health,” an outreach program dedicated to educating and supporting the elderly community in a nursing home located in Jakarta Barat. The event was centered around increasing awareness of cardiovascular health, particularly focusing on heart attacks and strokes, which are common health concerns among the elderly.

The main event on April 12 began with light-hearted games designed to engage the nursing home residents and build a cheerful, interactive atmosphere. These games not only brought joy but also served as an icebreaker between the AMSA volunteers and the elderly participants. After the games, the event transitioned into an educational session where the medical students presented clear and easy-to-understand information about heart attacks and strokes. The goal was to raise awareness about early symptoms, risk factors, and the importance of prevention and early treatment.

One of the most impactful parts of the day was a workshop on CPR, where a doctor who specializes in internal medicine demonstrated and taught basic life-saving techniques. This hands-on experience was especially valuable for caregivers and staff members, equipping them with practical skills to respond to emergency situations. In addition to the educational components, AMSA provided a series of free health checks for the residents. These included blood pressure measurements, blood glucose tests, cholesterol screenings, and BMI assessments. These health screenings were conducted professionally and with great care, offering the elderly valuable insight into their current health status.

The post-event on April 19 served as a follow-up visit where AMSA volunteers returned to the nursing home to reconnect with the residents, provide additional support, and reinforce the health messages shared during the main event. It was a warm and reflective conclusion to a meaningful initiative, emphasizing continuity in care and attention.

Through EARTH 2025, AMSA Atma Jaya Medical University demonstrated its dedication to community health and medical education. The event not only enriched the lives of the elderly participants but also provided AMSA members with the opportunity to grow as compassionate future healthcare professionals. It was a sincere effort to empower heart health—one conversation, one check-up, and one heartbeat at a time.
